Summary

The Wholesale Sales Specialist position is a part of the broader Wholesale sales team, playing an important role in supporting the Area Sales Managers (ASM).  This role will assist with the development of sales and marketing plans to help our sales team meet their objectives.  This role is a unique opportunity to gain tangible sales experience within the Ag Fertilizer, Industrial Chemical, Animal Feed, and Silica sand businesses as well as valuable exposure to the functional support areas, including marketing, demand planning, sales and operations, transportation, and finance.  We will provide ample development, training, and support to prepare the Sales Specialist to take on additional responsibilities within the organization and grow professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with ASMs to understand local market dynamics, competitors, product need, sales volume opportunity, and logistic constraints. Continually seek out and pursue opportunities to enhance process effectiveness and efficiencies

  • Assist ASM with meeting forecasting accuracy targets and work with Sales, S&OP, Transportation & Supply Chain to help ensure right product in the right place at the right time

  • Be actively engaged in promoting and helping drive sales with priority emphasis on of focus products

  • Work with the ASMs to conduct analysis of the current customer base, products sold, and identify additional opportunities to optimize our business with our customer base

  • Build relationships and collaborate with various internal departments to accomplish key initiatives and complete day-to-day operations

  • Research & assist in development of sales tools, marketing information, supply programs & processes

  • Act as a backup point of contact for ASM’s as identified and needed

Typical Education

An exciting newly created opportunity exists for an International Wholesale Area Sales Manager with a growth mindset to take responsibility for our Simplot Professional Products across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Ideally based in Singapore and reporting to our Business Development Manager ?Pro Products, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with our customers to promote the sale of the Simplot Products Portfolio and Technologies. 

What you will do:

 

  • Be the key contact for positioning all Simplot Professional Products into the marketplace through direct contact with Growers, Blender Partners, Nurseries and Specialty Crops in Asia Pacific. 
  • Maintain contact and build relationships with distributors and their sales force through sales calls, email, and telephone contact. 
  • Monitor product availability, delivery and resolve product problems.
  • Coordinating and generating wholesale international sales and marketing programs throughout the territory.
  • Perform public speaking at professional seminars and association gatherings where required. Participate in sales meetings, training sessions and seminars to stay abreast of current marketing and sales information and products. 
  • Manage distributor agreements and outside contracts with suppliers. 
  • Resolve problems that occur in pricing, shipping or delivery. Perform the key account duties of preparing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports and developing budgets. 
  • Prepare, submit, and monitor sales forecasts on a monthly basis.
  • Regularly communicate with the regulatory department to ensure product registration compliance. 

About you:

 

To be successful in this role you will have a background ideally in Field Sales or Account Management, with in-depth knowledge of speciality fertilizer products, as well as agriculture, nursery, and speciality markets. You will understand the complexity of wholesale distribution marketing. A Tertiary Qualification is preferred but not essential. 

 

You will be highly motivated, with the drive and ability to work autonomously, as well as with other sales professionals. You will demonstrate a sound understanding of the selling process and will be able to provide examples of solution based selling techniques.  Building relationships, providing excellent customer service, and managing multiple objectives in a fast-paced environment are key requisites. Given the territory coverage, you must be able to travel up to 70% (predominately international).

 

You will be multilingual in English, Indonesian/Malaysian and Mandarin would be a further asset but is not a requirement. Ideally you will bring an advanced understanding of fertilizer sales and marketing functions.

  • Regularly interface with the Region Manager and Market Manager to execute market strategies, report sales trends and competitor activities, as well as opportunities and challenges in the geography.
  • Ensure adequate follow-through in regards to operational aspects of the business such as delivery, application and billing are handled appropriately. Regularly and reliably communicate with operations to ensure strong performance in delivery and service outcomes.
  • Maintain customer agronomic records, assist in establishing customer financial records and collaborate with the Area Financial Services Manager in the establishment of credit and resolution of credit matters.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university is preferred (Equivalent experience of education and experience will be considered for meeting the minimum requirements of the role).

Relevant Experience

  • 3+ years related experience and/or training

Summary

  • Answers product and distribution inquiries from brokers and customers. Provides communication link between sales and distribution to facilitate prompt response. Promotes electronic processing whenever possible.
  • Basic negotiation skills required to ensure timely and lowest cost delivery of products to our customers, both internal and external.
  • Identify, track and resolve customer shipment and distribution related problems.
