Environmental Engineer

Summary

This role will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and efficient operation of water systems. ?Regulatory requirements include the areas of the Clean Water Act, the Superfund Act, water rights, and related areas.? Water efficiency responsibilities include a plant-wide water balance, water reclaim assessment, and extraction well water efficiency.? Engineers in the Environmental department apply their problem-solving skills and scientific knowledge to projects that impact the environment. Provide technical support and coaching to plant engineering and operational teams (e.g. process engineers, operators, etc.) We drive continuous improvement by designing, developing, testing and implementing technical solutions which make our operations more efficient and reduce impact on the environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Consult with operations, maintenance, and engineering on how to manage a series of 6-lined ponds that feeds irrigation water to 1100 acres of farm fields.
• Help manage the maintenance and design for containment areas in each production area and monitor underground piping for leaks.
• Manage the well sampling and groundwater extraction system as part of the Superfund clean-up program.
• Monitor and report on plant-wide water balance including water usage and water reclaim.
• Compile all documentation for compliance related to the Clean Water Act, Superfund, and other environmental programs.
• Create and present environmental training programs for all employees.
• Interpret and present scientific data for quality-control and compliance verification to the business and to regulators.

Typical Education

• Engineering Degree from 4-year college or university (Chemical, Environmental, Civil or Mechanical preferred)

Relevant Experience

• 5 years demonstrated experience in process or environmental engineering – preferred
  • 1-5 Years demonstrated experience – Engineer I
  • 5+ Years demonstrated experience – Engineer II
• Experience in Phosphate Industry/Phosphoric Acid Fertilizer mfg. preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and manage projects.
• Must be able to show initiative and be a 'self-starter' to achieve working goals.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Advanced Excel skills is preferred.
